The network of Keralas backwaters includes five major lakes such as the Vembanad Lake and Ashtamudi Lake. There are countless canals connecting these lakes. The snake boat race held during August/ September is very famous. Hill Stations: The Eastern side of Kerala is bordered by the famous Nilgiri mountain ranges. There are many mountains, forests, national parks, gorges and valleys in this region. The largest peak in the region goes up to a height of 2,900m (over 8,000 feet) above sea level. The most famous hill stations in the region are Munnar, Thekkady, Vagamon and Wayanad. All these regions are abundant with a variety of rare and exotic flora and fauna. Accommodation for tourists is never a problem in Kerala. There are hundreds of resorts and hotels all over Kerala which provide impeccable hospitality to tourists.
